Sonia Gandhi wants jobs for youth, welfare of tribals

For Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, development means welfare of the poor. If the poor and underprivileged sections of the society are not getting the benefits and they are not able to be a part of the path of progress, we can not claim development, she always believed.

In her recent campaign for the Congress in Gujarat, Sonia Gandhi had slammed the BJP government for its false claims of development. She said that the tribals in the state are in distress and pain.  “The welfare and development of A diva sis are our prime concern but the present BJP government has not been serious in this matter. They have almost killed the Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana”. “You must be remembering that the UPA Government at the Center had waived off loan worth crores  of the poor farmers but still the condition of the farmers in Gujarat remains pathetic because of the anti-people policies of the BJP government in the state”, she added. 

Sonia Gandhi further said “Lots of youth are jobless in the state. The health and education facilities are insufficient here.  My sisters in this state have been facing atrocities because of the worsening law and order situation in the state. Why all these happening here? If the government had given attention to your problems, you would not have faced so many problems”.  The Congress President urged the people to support Congress and to bring back the state of Gujarat to the path of development.

Sonia Gandhi: There is a need to strike a balance between allies and government policies

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday while delivering her opening address at party’s Chintan Shivir at Jaipur called for unity among the Congress workers.

Sonia Gandhi, who is also the UPA chairperson, also noted that there was a need to strike a balance between allies and government policies. Sonia Gandhi highlighted the fact that the last nine years of UPA rule was a period of tremendous economic growth, social change and technological innovation. As regards the recent tensions between India and Pakistan following the killing of two Indian soldiers on the LoC, Sonia Gandhi said that dialogue with neighbours must be based on accepted principles of civilised behaviour. "Better and closer relations with our immediate neighbours will not only make for regional peace -- they will also have a positive impact on some of our own border states," she said. "However, let us be clear. Our dialogue must be based on accepted principles of civilised behaviour. We will never compromise on our vigil and preparedness to deal with terrorism and threats on our borders."

The Congress president noted that women’s security was on top of the party’s agenda, and added the issue must be discussed at length. "Atrocities on women, both in urban and rural India are a blot on our collective conscience and a matter of shame," Sonia Gandhi said.

The party is also concerned about the poor and backward classes, Sonia said, and added that inclusive growth is not a party ploy but a conviction. She also had a word of advice for partymen - to be austere.

“Lavish weddings will lead to questions on where money came from,” she said, adding brazen display of wealth corrupts people.

Among the leaders present on the dais included Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister AK Antony, Rahul Gandhi, Motilal Vora and Ambika Soni.

Remove the corrupt BJP regime in Uttarakhand: Sonia Gandhi urges to voters

All India Congress Committee (AICC) President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi while addressing a election rally in almora, Uttarakhand took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the poll bound state and said that the present Government have created a disparity between hills and plains.

Sonia Gandhi lashed out at BJP for not bringing development in Uttarakhand and asked people to oust the existing government from the state. "No development in Uttarakhand under the BJP rule. The Centre's funds for development are being misused. The BJP is responsible for corruption in every corner of the state," said Sonia Gandhi.

"The BJP government is trying to create a wedge between the hills and plains in Uttarakhand. Only 13% of total electricity is being provided to the hills. It seems the BJP government believes hill people will manage with the sun and the moon," said the Congress President who is the state for the Congress campaign.

Sonia Gandhi also claimed that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre has given 'thousands of crores of rupees' for the development of Uttarakhand. "Whether the money was properly utilized, you people ask the BJP government," Sonia Gandhi told a huge gathering.

"The BJP is even giving jobs meant for SCs/STs to its own people and pushing the backward classes into a more miserable life," complained Sonia Gandhi. She added if Congress comes to power in Uttarakhand, the party will fulfill all its promises. "The Congress does not make false promises. Please vote for us and if we come to power, we will fulfil all our promises," said Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi blasts SAD-BJP Government for the bad state of affairs in Punjab

Congress President Sonia Gandhi lashed out at Akali-BJP Government in Punjab for the lack of basic facilities, pathetic condition of roads, falling educational standards and deteriorating health facilities in Government hospitals.  Sonia Gandhi said in Hindi, “Sarkari haspatal to Bhagwan Bharose hai Punjab mein”.

Sonia Gandhi said that the atrocities against women in Punjab are increasing day by day.  The Congress President also added that the condition of farmers is no better and they had to throw their potatoes on the roads.  Sonia Gandhi said that the Punjab Government is so steeped in debt that it was not in a position to pay salaries to its employees.

“This government has done nothing for the poor. The fraud in the name of Atta-Dal scheme is for everybody to see.  Another glaring example is the misuse of Rs. 5000 crores  the Centre  gave to Punjab under the Mahatma Gandhi rozgaar scheme,”   Sonia Gandji said. “I ask the present Government in Punjab, why the people under the poverty line had increased many-fold during the last five years?” asked Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi’s visit boosts Congress workers in Punjab

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s first political rally in 2012 Assembly elections in Punjab boosted the morale of the Congress workers in the state. On Thursday the Congress President exhibited her aggressive posture towards taking on rivals with full might.

Sonia Gandhi was welcomed by Punjab Congress affairs in charge Gulchain Singh Charak and Punjab Pradseh Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh, while she met 11 candidates in a row till reaching the stage. She speedily completed the exercise to board the stage.

Sonia Gandhi waved at the crowd to a thunderous applause. She burst out laughing when Punjab Congress affairs in charge Gulchain Singh Charak, while conducting the proceedings, asked the gathering in chaste Punjabi to raise slogans in favour of the Congress louder.

The Congress president was seen holding discussions with Amarinder Singh while she shared some light moments with leader of opposition in Punjab vidhan sabha Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on dais.

Sonia Gandhi then delivered an aggressive speech on failure of the SAD-BJP combine government in Punjab. The audience observed pin drop silence during her 15  minutes authoritative talk. Thereafter, she alighted from dais but not before waving at the crowd, which responded on positive note. Later, Sonia Gandhi again waived towards them while standing on the car’s footrest.

"The government in Punjab even failed to disburse salaries to its employees," said Sonia Gandhi, adding that "only a Congress government is capable of bringing prosperity and development in the state."
