Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s first political rally in 2012 Assembly elections in Punjab boosted the morale of the Congress workers in the state. On Thursday the Congress President exhibited her aggressive posture towards taking on rivals with full might.
Sonia Gandhi was welcomed by Punjab Congress affairs in charge Gulchain Singh Charak and Punjab Pradseh Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh, while she met 11 candidates in a row till reaching the stage. She speedily completed the exercise to board the stage.
Sonia Gandhi waved at the crowd to a thunderous applause. She burst out laughing when Punjab Congress affairs in charge Gulchain Singh Charak, while conducting the proceedings, asked the gathering in chaste Punjabi to raise slogans in favour of the Congress louder.
The Congress president was seen holding discussions with Amarinder Singh while she shared some light moments with leader of opposition in Punjab vidhan sabha Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on dais.
Sonia Gandhi then delivered an aggressive speech on failure of the SAD-BJP combine government in Punjab. The audience observed pin drop silence during her 15 minutes authoritative talk. Thereafter, she alighted from dais but not before waving at the crowd, which responded on positive note. Later, Sonia Gandhi again waived towards them while standing on the car’s footrest.
"The government in Punjab even failed to disburse salaries to its employees," said Sonia Gandhi, adding that "only a Congress government is capable of bringing prosperity and development in the state."
