Accusing Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party for pushing UP backwards instead of taking it forward, Rahul Gandhi has said Congress (I) will change this trend. He pointed out that during the last twenty two years leaders of parties like SP and BSP have worked for the benefit of members of their respective castes only rather than for the development of the state as a whole. During his campaign he asked the audience, “Tell me if there is one state that hasn’t developed under Congress (I) rule.” “The leaders in Uttar Pradesh do not talk about future, about eradicating poverty but are just concerned about remaining in power,” he said adding that “What would they plan for your future?” He said Congress (I) has experience, visionary plans and necessary expertise to develop the state. Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for Congress (I) and promised that his party will make UP No.1 state in the country within a period of ten years.
