Congress (I) has slammed Mayawati government for being neck deep in corruption and indulging into scams after scams. Mayawati government selected two areas of Allahabad - Bara and karchana - for establishing electric power plants. While plants were to be run by private companies land, water and coal for them was to be supplied by the state government. 660 MW were to be supplied by Bara plant while another 660 MW by Karchana plant. For this tenders were floated in 2008. Lanco Company offered electric supply at the rate of Rs2.82 from Bara plant and Rs 2.83 from Karchana plant. But tenders were rejected on the plea that rate offered were much higher than available in the market. Thus in first ground Lanco and Reliance power were eliminated. In the next round JP Associates were given contract although their bid was even still higher that is Rs 2.97. Thus the state government suffered annual loss of Rs 320 crore on this account, said Congress (I).
