Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the non-Congress governments in UP, during the past 22 years, have pulled the state backwards. On the third day of the second phase of Congress’ Campaign in the run up to the upcoming assembly polls in the state Rahul Gandhi promised that a Congress government will lead Uttar Pradesh back to the top position again.
Rahul Gandhi emphasised that Congress is committed to work for the poor. “We want to serve the poor. We do not talk about caste or religion but talk only about development” he claimed.
Referring the previous non-Congress Governments in U.P he said “But in U.P for the past 22 years your Governments worked for only a particular caste or religion. They never bothered about the people as a whole, but looted your money. You trusted BJP. They cheated you in the name of God. You trusted S.P and expected them to develop your state. But what had happened? Criminal were placed even in Police stations. People were not able to fire a FIR even. Rampant corruption was seen all around. You then trusted BSP. You elected them with a thumping majority with 208 seats. But they did not come to you after that, instead looted you“.
